Let me introduce myself

Hello everyone,

my name is Michael I am a master student in IT Systems Engineering at Hasso Plattner Institute in Potsdam.
At the same time I am doing an intership at SAP Innovation Center in Potsdam.
In 2 monthes I am going to do an internship at SAP Labs in California.
The both internships (in Germany and in the States)  is a part of the main award in SAP coding competition,
which I won together with other three students last year.

The competition I will explain in my latter posts.
The main topic of this blog will be about visa preparation and about my first experiences in California.

I was waiting for this day since 1 year. After long preparation, visa application, room search and packing I'm sitting in the airport and waiting for my flight. This flight will bring me to the country of thousand opportunities in other part of the world. Incredible, more than 9000 kilometers (5600 miles) is San Francisco from Berlin airport away. My flight will take 14 hours. I was never so far away from home.I don't know what is expecting to me but I hope to be very satisfied with thejorney. To meet new interesting people, learn country and people living here, learn something in my profession and extend my point of view. Leaving comfort zone I want to leave my comfort zone and learn new things. The disadvantage of the comfort zone is that you do all daily things automatically, you don't recognize details and don't feel surrounding environment. 1 month in the USA

Incredible, one month is already gone since I came to Palo Alto. The time is going so fast here. So it is probably time me to look back and summarize my first impressions... First impressions My first thought when I came here was: oh my God, I'm in a Hollywood movie. Actually when you live in every European country and you watch an american movie you don't think that the action is happening near your house, because everything is little bit different. Other houses, other cars, other policemen and even post boxes. When you are here you see that everything looks really like in a movie. Same small, very elegant, maintained houses, huge pickups, policemen with their shiny badges and post boxes with a red flag, which rises when a letter is inside. Households differences All kinds of measures are different from Europe. International Semantic Web Summer School in Bertinoro

This summer I had a very nice opportunity to attend to the  International Semantic Web Summer School (ISWS) . The school took 1 week and was mainly organized for Phd students, young professionals and graduates who are interested in topics like Semantic Web and surrounding technologies (e.g Natural Language Processing, Machine Learning, Ontology Design, Blockchain). My master thesis topic was ' Usage of Linked Open Data in Content-Based Recommender Systems for Real World E-Commerce ', which I've written under the supervision of  Prof. Harald Sack  (Karlsruhe University) who is one of the directors of the summer school.
